I want to allow my dogs to freely enter and leave my house at their will using a smart doggy door. The problem is that there is a lot of stray cats that could get in hence I need to ensure that only dogs should be allowed in. I do this through an Image Classification model and Deep Learning

Hargave explains Deep Learning as follows:

Deep Learning imitates the workings of the human brain in processing data and creating patterns to use in decision making.

Big Data grew tremendously with digitisation. This data is usually unstructured and will take humans decades to analyse and extract important information. This is where Deep Learning can be applied. It sifts through this data and creates patterns within minutes!

We can see image recognition being done on huge databases like Facebook. Facebook gives you the option to automatically detect your face in all photos and videos in the Facebook database.

In a 4IR world, this could be used in Smart Cities. Smart CCTV's, that is linked to the national database of ID photos and other key identifiers. can identify missing or wanted people quicker and easier than manual methods.

My goal is to prevent a cat from coming into the house through a doggy door. I achieve this using a model that can identify whether dogs or cats are present in an image. I used Nvidia's Deep Learning Institute, DIGITS and AlexNet to build this model. Through Deep Learning, a data set of 18750 images of dogs and cats were analysed and classified as a dog or cat. I tested it with some images of dogs and cats and all the results were correct. DIGITS provided me with a visual representation of the Deep Learning methods that drove the outcome.
